What
had to be done?
The concept of a ‘University for Industry’
led to the creation of Ufi in 1998. The organisation then
set-up learndirect, now a nationally recognised brand for
learning.
The challenge was how to provide an ICT infrastructure to
support what would be largest e-learning network of its kind
in the world, including the delivery of individualised
learning to a mass audience through a unique combination of
flexibility, accessibility and support.

How this helped...
|
|
-
This enabled the new organisation to
manage change in the future and control costs because it
began operation with a clear set of information
strategies and IT architecture which could be exploited;
-
focus on the business leaving delivery
of the IT to its suppliers;
-
pass the risk for the provision of the
new IT to the supply chain through flexible contracts;
-
reduce the cost of the procurement of
the supply chain by about a third and ensured that the
given timescale was achieved.
