More, More, More

What had to be done?

Since it's launch in 1994 Orange has pioneered innovative mobile 'phone services. The company grew at a phenomenal rate during the 1990's, with 50% year-on-year growth minimum.

The rapid technological evolution coupled with this growth impacted the reliability and cost of ownership of the distributed IT infrastructure.

The EDEN Programme was created to implement a standardised IT infrastructure capable of supporting a rapidly changing organisation.

What our consultants did...

  • Direction and day-to-day management of the Programme;

  • Creation and management of a Programme Support Office, including the development of an Project Management Handbook, based on PRINCE2, and the mentoring of project staff into Project Office roles;

  • Managed the design and development of a modular IT infrastructure;

  • Overall management of the procurement and installation of distributed infrastructure;

  • Project Management support to the central and local offices to assist in the planning and implementation;

  • Management of the identification, and integration with legacy applications, a rationalised set of  user applications reflecting the agreed business need;

  • Development, based on ITIL processes, of a centralised ongoing service support team to manage the live running of the new and legacy applications;

  • Advise on supplier relationship and contract management following award of contracts.

How this helped...

  • Over 60% reduction in Total Cost of Ownership costs for the distributed IT systems;

  • A flexible IT infrastructure which enabled remote and mobile working for all staff;

  • During the life of the programme the company doubled in size - the componentized infrastructure was able to grow without modification;

  • Availability of systems improved significantly - providing 99.95% availability 'as standard'. Over 95% of all support calls were resolved remotely without the need for timely and costly site visits to users.
